Top Mountain Bike Trails in Victoria

Victoria’s got some of the best riding in the country – whether you’re into flowy downhill runs, technical climbs, or scenic forest loops, there’s a track to match your style. From the High Country to the coast, these are the top mountain bike trails in Victoria that every rider should tick off their list.

1. Bright – Mystic Mountain Bike Park

Nestled in the pine plantations just outside Bright in Northeast Victoria, Mystic Mountain Bike Park delivers more than 45 km of purpose-built singletrack catering to a wide spectrum of riders. Flow trails, berms, jumps and tech descents abound – for example the “Hero” trail is a 3 km flow line packed with big berms and optional A & B jump lines. With an elevation drop of roughly 120 m or more (1,631–2,012 ft) on some sections, riders looking for gravity-fed fun will feel right at home.

Established in the 2010s and now under new management by the team behind major downhill bike parks, Mystic continues to expand and refine its trail map.

This mountain bike park draws bikers due to its beginner-friendly loops and adrenaline-fuelled jumps. This is a park you can spend multiple days in and still discover more. Full-suspension rigs shine here thanks to steep drops and sculpted terrain.

2. You Yangs Regional Park

Just an hour southwest of Melbourne, You Yangs Regional Park is a favourite for riders chasing variety close to the city. The park features over 50 km of purpose-built trails across two main zones – Kurrajong, with about 20 km of smooth, flowy loops perfect for beginners and families, and Stockyards, offering 30 km of steeper, rockier terrain for intermediate to advanced riders. Trails like Lactic Acid, Turbulence, and Boulder Track combine grippy granite surfaces, quick descents, and scenic climbs of up to 200 m elevation.

Loved for its well-marked trails, solid year-round conditions, and easy access, You Yangs is ideal for half-day sessions or quick weekend escapes. Built in the mid-2000s and continually upgraded, it’s now one of Victoria’s best-maintained MTB parks – complete with great facilities, parking, and trailhead amenities. Just load up, roll out, and ride.

3. Falls Creek

When the snow melts, Falls Creek transforms into an alpine playground for riders. Its trails are long, flowing, and scenic, offering epic views across the Victorian Alps. The iconic 40 km Big Hill Adventure Trail connects Falls Creek to Mount Beauty – a must-do for anyone chasing an all-day backcountry ride through high-country terrain.

Access to the area was briefly affected by a landslide on Bogong High Plains Road in late 2022, which temporarily cut off vehicle access between Mount Beauty and Falls Creek. Partial access was restored in April 2023, and the route fully reopened in May 2024, meaning riders can once again enjoy uninterrupted travel between the mountain village and the valley below.

Falls Creek works best for experienced riders – bring a capable trail or enduro bike and pack for unpredictable alpine weather.

4. Lysterfield Park

A Melbourne-local legend, Lysterfield Park hosted the 2006 Commonwealth Games mountain bike events. The park offers more than 20 trails across a broad spectrum of difficulty. From gentle climbs and smooth flow for newcomers to challenging features for more committed riders, the network adapts to your style.

Located just 35 km east of Melbourne’s CBD, it’s super convenient for a quick pedal.

The combination of variety, accessibility, good facilities, and consistent maintenance makes it a top choice for both weekend warriors and full-time riders.

5. Mount Buller

High in the Victorian Alps, Mt. Buller Bike Park boasts an alpine setting that few other trails in Australia can match. Trails span gravity, flow and cross-country formats across elevations up to around 1,800 m. The 46 km Australian Alpine Epic trail is a standout – the first IMBA-accredited Epic route in the Southern Hemisphere – with a climb of 1,124 m and a descent of around 2,059 m.

The Epic takes riders from high-alpine snow-gum woodlands into wilderness valleys, finishing alongside the Delatite River, a crystal-clear alpine stream known for its cool mountain water, rocky crossings, and lush river gums that make for a refreshing and scenic finale. The resort’s mountain bike network was upgraded between 2009–2014 and now features over 50 km of trails.

It’s the perfect mix of effort and reward – big climbs, flowing trails, and mountain views for days. At Mount Buller, you can roll straight out of your lodge and into adventure.

6. Forrest

Deep in the Otways near Lake Elizabeth, Forrest’s trail network spans more than 60 km of singletrack weaving through temperate rainforest, eucalypt glades and rolling terrain.

What keeps riders coming back is the mix of flow and challenge – easygoing trails that let you cruise, followed by punchy climbs that demand focus. Combine that with the charm of a post-ride coffee in town and the peace of a crowd-free setting, and it’s easy to see the appeal.
